Elsie Carnevale Obituary


Elsie M. Carnevale, 84, Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Duncansville, passed away Monday in Vero Beach, Fla.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Otto and Marie (Skelley) Snyder.

Surviving are three daughters: Valerie Carnevale McKeirnan (Kevin), Donna Schmid and Toni Tangeman (Richard); six grandchildren: Jesse of New Orleans, La., Cody of New York, N.Y., Devan (Nicole) in Germany, Erika of Sarasota, Fla., and Julian (Britney) and Megan Reid (Todd), both of Altoona; three great-grandchildren: Jacqueline Reid, Jack Tangeman and Connor Reid, all of Altoona; two brothers: Donald Snyder and Dr. Robert Snyder (Judy) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her special best friend and companion, William Boyles Sr. of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Schmid.

She was a 1953 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School, a 1956 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and a 1983 graduate of St. Joseph's University in North Windham, Maine. She retired from the Altoona Hospital in January 2002 as the administrative director of the Nephrology Department, a service she had helped to develop along with several area physicians, and was very proud of.

Ms. Carnevale was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was also a member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association and the National Renal Administrator's Association, from their inception. Ms. Carnevale also served two terms on the board of Family Services Inc. and was a member of the Blair Bicycle Club Inc.

In addition to spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed bicycling, yoga, golf, gardening and traveling.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, at a later date. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
