Frank R. Filkosky, 57, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jeannette, son of Patricia Stawicki and the late Frank P. Filkosky. He later married his loving wife of 28 years, Linda B. Filkosky, who preceded him in death on November 10, 2015.
He is survived by his mother: Patricia Stawicki, of Delmont; children: Frank A. Filkosky, of Pittsburgh and Sabrina (Joshua) Henderson, of Johnstown; and his mother-in-law, Genevieve Berardinelli, of Altoona.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; father, Frank P. Filkosky; step-father, Eugene Stawicki; and brother, Rodney Filkosky.
Frank graduated from Hempfield Area High School. He began his college education at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown where he became a proud lifelong member of the Delta Sigma Chi fraternity Y.I.T.B. He left UPJ before marrying his soulmate, Linda. He then worked for three years as a third shift custodian while attending Saint Francis University during the day. Newly married with a one year old boy, Frank graduated summa cum laude before being hired as a teacher for the Altoona Area School District. He served as a teacher and administrator for 25 years in Altoona and in Hollidaysburg as principal of Frankstown Elementary. He often joked that things were run his way because his name was on the building. He took great pride in his career and sincere joy out of being a principal and teacher to all students and staff over the years.
Family came first above all else and that's where his spare time was spent. He also served for 8 years as a member of the Child and Youth Family Services advisory board and 34 years as a brother in Delta Sigma Chi and holds these lifelong relationships in the highest regard.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-9pm Friday, May 6, 2022 in the Santella Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the “Linda and Frank Filkosky, Live Your Dream Scholarship,” 405 Clark St. Hollidaysburg PA 16648; make checks payable to HASD Foundation.
