George Loomis Obituary

George J. Loomis, 85, Altoona, passed away peacefully Saturday at home after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ambrose J. and Margaret (Fields) Loomis. He married Anna Mae Jones on Aug. 29, 1952, and she passed away June 10, 2012, after 59 years of marriage.

Surviving are two children: Becky D. and George J. II (Janine); two grandchildren: Kelsey Loomis and Joshua Pleskonko; a sister, Margaret Green; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by several siblings.

George was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and later went on to be a merchant seaman on the ship J.B. Waterman during WWII. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the early 1950s and then went into self-employment as owner of Loomis Tool Sales.

George was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid reader and also had an interest in stamps. He enjoyed his travels and made many friends along the way in his career.

To respect George's wishes, there will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

In memory of George, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
