Gerald M. “Jerry” Balasco, 95, formerly of Altoona, PA., passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry was born in Altoona, PA., on July 28, 1930 to the late Mary E. (DeAngelis) and the late Ralph Balasco. Jerry was married to Barbara K. Ebersole on July 29, 1953 whom preceded him in death on September 25, 2022.
Surviving Jerry are his sons: Dale (Katheryn) Balasco, Brian Balasco, both of Bucks County and Joel (Mary) Balasco, of North Carolina; his siblings: Theresa Pellegrine, of Altoona, Pa., and Ronald Balasco (Barbara), of Fairless Hills; his 7 grandchildren: Jerry, Kyle, Trey, Thomas, Christopher, Jesse and Holly, and 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a brother Robert (Jane) Balasco; and a brother-in-law Steve Pellegrine.
Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He attended St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Newtown and St. Bede of Venerable Church of Holland.
Jerry graduated from Altoona High School in the class of 1948 shortly before serving as a Cpl. in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, as well as being a member of the 28th Infantry Division Band. Jerry retired as a supervisor for U.S. Steel Fairless Works. He also enjoyed some time working at Burlington Testing in New Jersey.
Friends will be received on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 10am until Noon in the Santella Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church following the visitation at Noon. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors.
