Helen G. DiPietro, 92, Altoona, passed away Monday at Garvey Manor. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late Francis and Sophie (Miller) Ryan. On Nov. 6, 1954 she married Peter DiPietro who preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2004.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana DiPietro of Altoona; a son, Michael DiPietro of Duluth Ga.; five grandchildren: Joseph Muhlbauer, Autumn and Aubriann DiPietro, Matt and Erin Steinbugl; and nine great-grandchildren: McKinley, Justin, and Jacob Muhlbauer, Justin and Joshua DiPietro, Carter and Paxton Steinbugl, Sadie and Maci Jones; son in law Robert Steinbugl of Altoona, and many extended family members.
Helen was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Steinbugl; a son, David DiPietro; two grandsons: Justin Muhlbauer. and Andrew DiPietro; and her siblings: Thomas and William Ryan and Mary Ryan Walker.
Helen was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She worked for the PA State Unemployment office until she retired in 1993. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, working in the yard and playing racquetball, earning trophies in the senior league. Her dogs also held a special place in her heart and no family gathering was complete without her chocolate chip cookies, pizzelle cookies and meatballs.
Helen was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Friends will be received on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Santella Funeral Home from 9:30 am until 11am, at which time a brief funeral service will be held in the funeral home. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery following the service.
