James W. Turiano, 74, of Altoona, peacefully passed away at his home on Monday, after a stroke.
James was born on July 18th 1947 to the late Joseph and Evelyne (Heaton) Turiano in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Tyrone High School in 1967, he went on to join the Navy and served during the Vietnam War with several service awards.
After leaving active service and joining the reserves, he landed his first job as a technician for PPG for 35 years. In 1980, he met Deborah, and they wed in 1981, going on to have one child, Joshua.
James was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. More than anything he believed in Service, to his Family, his Country, and his Church where he could be found cantering on the weekends.
James was also a passionate Supporter of the Boy Scouts and a gardener, he could often be found delivering fresh produce from his garden that seemed to grow 2-3 rows every year, to everyone he knew.
Anyone who knew James knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He is survived by his spouse Deborah; son, Joshua & Teresa; grandchildren: William (8), John and Arya (2 weeks); 6 brothers and sisters; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the 10am memorial Mass Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, 443 Wopsononock Ave, Altoona, PA 16601. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in memory of James to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
