Jane Orlando, 97,of Altoona, died Sunday, March 5. She was born December 1, 1925 in Osterburg, PA., the daughter of Mayme (Crissman) and Charles R. Slick. She was a wife of the late Edward Orlando.
Jane came from a family that traces its roots to the Bedford, PA area since the eighteenth century. Her ancestors played a significant role in the growth of that area, both at the state congressional, as well as, political levels. Academics were critical to the family. Jane graduated from Bedford High School in 1942. She attended Gettysburg College, after which she transferred and graduated from Duke Nursing School.
She later married her husband, Edward Orlando and then had a son, Jeffery, both of whom are deceased. Jane spent most of her career using her RN degree at Altoona Veterans Hospital. Using her medical background, she spent a life administering to the needs of her family and friends. She has been a long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Jane’s siblings, Ray, Caroline, Charles and Evelyn Slick predeceased her.
She is survived by her nieces, Carol F. Keener and Maureen (Orlando) Sneath, as well as her great nephew, Marshall C. Keener.
A brief service will be held at her interment at Calvary Cemetery in Altoona on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00AM. Contributions can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Santella Funeral Home.
