Joanne C. Claar, 95, of Altoona, entered into eternal rest on Monday at Celebration Villa, surrounded by her family in Duncansville.
Joanne was born on March 16, 1930 in Altoona, daughter of the late John and Mary Grace (Pretola) Roccio.
She later married Sheldon “Bud” Claar and he preceded her in death in 2004.
Joanne is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Smith of Duncansville; brother, James Roccio, of Johnstown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her son in law, James C. Smith; 3 siblings: Robert and Richard Roccio and Elizabeth Torso.
Joanne was Catholic by faith and a member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona.
Joanne worked many years for Saf-T-Bak, a manufacturing company focused on hunting and fishing apparel and insulated garments.
She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and was an avid reader. She especially loved her family gatherings.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral Mass at 10am on Monday, December 8, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 6th Avenue, Altoona, 5519 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA. 16602. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
