John E. Franks

John E. Franks, 86, Altoona, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Blandburg, son of the late Ernest and Marion (Boyd) Franks. He later married Mary Grace Spiridigliozzi and she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2006.

He is survived by a daughter, Roxanne (Don) Hart; a son, Jeff (Elida) Franks; 5 grandchildren: Danielle Hart, Matthew Hart, Derrick Franks, Brianna Smith, and Amber Franks; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Franks.

John was a graduate of Reade Township High School. He owned VJ’s store, with partner and friend, Vince Weidlich, for over 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne.

John enjoyed bowling, flea markets and was also the Union President of Stanley Electric.

John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Friends will be received from 9am to 10:30am Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
