John Giardino Obituary

John R. Giardino, 80, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Thursday at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Theresa (Apostolico) Giardino. On January 10, 1976 he married Lucia Ferrentino and she preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2012.

He is survived by his four children: Theresa (Doug) Steberger, Jennifer (Tom) Gehrdes, Joanne Giardino, and John Giardino; 3 grandchildren: Nicholas, Mitchell, and Jocelyn; a brother, Anthony “Sonny” Giardino, of California; nieces and nephews: Theresa (Frank) Livoti, Mary Orr, and Tommy (Dawn) Bare; and many great nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Bare, and a brother-in-law, Tom Bare.

John was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Robert Morris College. John served in the United States Army during Vietnam, earning a Marksmen rifle good conduct medal. He later spent most of his working years as a certified public accountant.

He enjoyed going to church, baseball games, and spending time with family and friends.

John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Monday, April 26, 2021 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
