John P. McLucas, 94, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday morning at Garvey Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Altoona and was raised in St. John’s Orphanage in Cresson. He was the son of John A. McLucas and Verna (Flick) McLucas. On April 22, 1950, he married the love of his life, Esther J. McLucas, with whom he spent over 70 years. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2021.
He is survived by his son, John M. McLucas and his wife, Juanita (Glover); two grandchildren, Michael J. McLucas, of Hollidaysburg, and Autumn J. McLucas, of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his siblings: Robert J. McLucas, of Florida and Marie Meadowcroft, of Philadelphia.
John attended Cresson High School and later served with the United States Coast Guard as a Merchant Marine. He later retired from Conrail as a carman. He was also an accomplished carpenter; of which he was involved with many family projects.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains, gardening, and was involved with the reconstruction of the 12th Ward Memorial. He enjoyed spending time with his best friend, his dog, J.P.
John was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona.
Friends will be received from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022 at Santella Funeral Home. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
