Karl Haider, 89, Altoona, passed away on April 8, 2021 at the UPMC Altoona Hospital due to complications of Covid-19. He was born in Austria, son of the late Karl and Katherina (Filipot) Haider. On Dec. 29, 1956 he married Lenora Mannino in Tyrone.
He is survived by his loving wife; two children: Elaine (Michael) Bulsok and Karl (Mary) Haider; two grandchildren: Karl R. and Ruth Haider; two sisters-in-law, Palmina Reading and Josephine Formille; a brother-in-law, Basil (Donna) Mannino; four nephews; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ludwig Filipot; and a sister, Helga Rorweger.
Karl emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1954 and then to the United States in 1957. Karl proudly became a US citizen in 1965.
He retired as a Tool Room Foreman at Veeder Root after 39 years of service.
Karl enjoyed bicycling; spending time with his grandchildren; family vacations, especially National Parks; woodworking and home improvement; and fixing any and everything mechanical. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.
At the request of the deceased, no public viewing will be held. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
