Leo F. Capouellez Sr., 89, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home passed away Sunday at the home. He was born in Tippletown, the son of the late John and Geraldine (Conrad) Capouellez. He married Matilda “Tillie” DeCarlo on Aug. 8, 1959.
Surviving are his loving wife, Tillie of 61 years; Three Children: Cathy Keefe (Ray) of Altoona, Glenn Capouellez of Ohio, and Patrick Capouellez of Altoona; Daughter-in-law: Rhonda Capouellez; 11 grandchildren: Brande Morrison, Ashley Minicozzi, Vanessa Stuckless, Clayton Capouellez, Ian Capouellez, Marcia Coho, Michelle Metcalfe, Barbara Karwowski, Sarah Snyder, Jordan Capouellez and Makenzy Capouellez and 12 great-grandchildren . He is also survived by his brother, Leonard Capouellez (Louise).
He was preceded in death by a son: Leo Jr.; Two Brothers: Clifford and John “Squirt”; and his sister, Ethel Eckenrode
Leo served in the US Army Signal Corps as a corporal during the Korean War. He retired from Alto Glass Co. but was previously owner and operator of Ashville Plate Glass and Shadyside Custard Stand.
He was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Leo enjoyed bowling and the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed being crafty in his garage where he would make bird houses and other small projects. Leo’s true love was spending time with his loving family and his dog. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will be received from 4 pm. to 8 pm. on Friday at the Santella Funeral Home where a vigil for the deceased will be held and COVID-19 protocols will be followed. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Saturday, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Committal with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
