Marc Cook Obituary

Marc Anthony Cook played many roles in his lifetime, before his unexpected death on February 13th, 2024, at the age of 51; firstly, that of a son and little brother, later a big brother, a heart-breaker, a musician, a trouble-maker, a writer, a friend, a nature lover, and one of his most significant roles, a father. Most people he met commented on his good looks and his bright blue eyes— the same eyes shared by his Mother, Maryann, and his siblings Heidi, Christopher, Angelle, and Brittany.

Marc loved music, especially The Grateful Dead, John Lennon and the Beatles, and Bob Dylan. He traveled with the Dead for several years in the early 90’s, having the time of his life. He was a skilled guitar player and loved strumming around the campfire with friends and family. He taught his little sister Brittany her first ever song on the guitar, Dust in the Wind.

He loved to read the bible and writing down his musings. He enjoyed being outside in nature. He could talk for hours and hours with anyone who was willing to sit with him and listen.

Marc was born in Altoona, PA on November 21st, 1972, to Maryann Cook (Petta). After high school, Marc created a life full of friends, family, music, and conversation. He is survived by his parents Maryann and Russell, his oldest daughter, Bryelle and grandchild Eiley, as well as his son, Elijah. Marc was one of five siblings, all of whom are still living, including his older sister Heidi (husband Brian, son Daniel), his younger brother Chris (wife Jen, and children Parker, Ohwen, Gabriel), sister Angelle (husband Ryan) and sister Brittany.

            A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 18th, at Second Avenue United Methodist at 6:00 pm. All who loved him are welcome to join. In lieu of flowers we invite you to donate to your favorite charity, scribble out a poem or a song, listen to The Dead or John Lennon, or share your favorite memories of Marc.

To live in this world

you must be able

to do three things:

to love what is mortal;

to hold it

against your bones knowing

your own life depends on it;

and, when the time comes to let it go,

to let it go.
