Margaret E. “Peggy” Vasel

Margaret E. “Peggy” Vasel, 82, Altoona, passed away Saturday at Maybrook Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Calvin Cummings Sr. and Betty Freeland. On Aug. 27, 1960, she married George Vasel.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 64 years, George; daughter, Lisa Spicer; 5 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; close family friend, Amy Mallory; and her dog, J.J.

Peggy was preceded in death by 2 sons: George “Skip” Vasel Jr., and Michael Vasel; and a sister, Susan Byers.

Peggy was an Altoona High School graduate and worked as a CNA at Altoona Hospital as a medical secretary. She also worked as a Unit Secretary in Massachusetts for nursing and rehabilitation.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, football, especially the Steelers, and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 4-7pm Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am Thursday, August 15, 2024 in the Santella Funeral Home, Pastor Ralph Hamer officiating. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery.
