Mark A. Scalice, 59, Cresson, formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, a son of Frank Scalice and the late Linda (Bare) Scalice.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amanda (Kolasa) Scalice; five children: Kayla (Jake) Condron, Baylee (Chris Fochler), Dominic, Alyssa and Shawn; five grandchildren: Jacob, Luke, Brynlee, Kora and Aubrey; a great-grandson, Greyson; a sister, Renee (Tom) Palmerine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kelsey; and his brother, Jeff.
Mark was a 1983 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School and served in the United States Air Force. In 2019 he retired from the Ebensburg State Center, after which he was the head golf coach at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.
Mark loved coaching and wanted nothing more that to instill the true meaning of sportsmanship and integrity in his golfers, who he referred to as his “kids.” Mark loved playing golf and ran the Guts and Glory golf outing for Crohn’s and Collitis. He loved playing cornhole and watching the Steelers. He loved the beach and his many years playing Co-Ed Softball, but mostly loved the friends he made while playing.
Mark’s family was the most important thing to him and his grandchildren were his treasures.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at The Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
