Martin S. “Marty” Rusnak, 81, Altoona, a devoted husband, beloved father, faithful friend, respected educator, and revered wrestling coach, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Marty’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, passion, and profound impact on countless lives.

Born in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, Marty’s life was one of service and commitment. He was a pillar of strength and love to his cherished wife, Mary Ann, and their three sons: Marty “Racer”, John “JJ”, and Mark. In addition to his immediate family, Marty was a loving grandfather to John, Catherine, and Emelyn, who brought him endless joy and pride. Marty is survived by his sister, Margaret, whom he cherished dearly. Marty was also a loving uncle and great uncle, bringing warmth and laughter to the lives of his nieces and nephew, and their children. Marty’s devotion to his family was unparalleled, his love a guiding light that illuminated their lives with warmth and joy.

Marty’s professional career spanned 36 years as an educator, during which he touched the hearts and minds of generations of students. He instilled not only knowledge but also values of integrity, perseverance, and kindness.

Beyond the classroom, Marty’s passion for wrestling ignited a flame that burned brightly for over three decades. As the wrestling coach at Altoona High School for an impressive 36 years, Marty’s impact on the sport and his athletes was immeasurable. He was more than a coach; he was a mentor, a role model, and a friend to those who had the privilege of wrestling for him.

Marty’s dedication and excellence in coaching were recognized with induction into both the PA Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and the PA Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, honors that reflected his profound influence on the sport, his wrestlers and his community.

While Marty’s earthly journey has come to an end, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched.
