Mary Oricko Obituary

Mary E. (Albin) Oricko, 98, of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg, PA. She was born in Greencastle IN, daughter of the late Wilbur and Ruth (Julian) Albin. She later married Michael A. Oricko and he preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2000.

Mary Oricko will forever be remembered as a gentle, pleasant and caring woman, the beloved wife of Michael, mother of three sons, Michael, Joseph and Timothy, grandmother of Philip and CJ and great-grandmother of two.

Raised on a farm in Greencastle, IN, she met her husband, a Major in the U.S. Army Air Corps, while working at Wright Patterson Air Force base after WWII. She was immediately embraced by Michael’s extended and close-knit Italian family who lived in Bethlehem, PA. She learned to make their favorite
Italian dishes and immersed herself in the Italian traditions. Back in Dayton, she became an active member of the Sons of Italy fraternal organization.

Mary was a graduate of post-secondary Secretarial School and worked as a secretary at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base before becoming a homemaker to her family.

Similarly, Mary developed an interest in her three sons’ fascination with cars. She joined the MG Club of Dayton, along with her husband and son, Timothy, and traveled with them to car shows all over the mid-west.

Mary had an artistic side, as well. She crafted decorative pottery items and wall hangings, many of which are proudly displayed in Joseph’s Hollidaysburg home.

After her husband Michael’s death, Mary and Tim moved from Dayton, OH to Hollidaysburg, PA where Joseph opened his home for them. She has resided in Hollidaysburg since 2006 and has made new friends with the caregivers who assisted her with activities of daily living. Always smiling, Mary touched
the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle laugh will be missed by all, and most especially, by her loving sons.

Mary was a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Lakemont.

Friends will be received from 9am until the 10am funeral Mass Thursday, March 24, 2022 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Altoona. Interment will be in David’s Cemetery in Dayton, OH. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
