Obituary

Mary Jo Maley, 77, Holidaysburg passed away unexpectedly Sunday at her residence. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Angelo J. and Mary A. (Turchetta) Maniglia.

Surviving are her twin daughters: Lisa Marie (Jim) Gehret, of Hollidaysburg and Lori Ann (Randy) Hampton, of Tyrone; and youngest daughter, Denise Michelle Frailey and fiance Craig Rock, of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren: Katherine Blackburn, of Hagerstown, MD, Brandon Gehret, of Elkridge, MD, Casey (Cheyanne) Hampton, of Altoona, and Caleb Frailey, of Hollidaysburg; 3 great-grandchildren: Brantley, Karson, and Aleighanna; and two sisters: Donna R. Sroka, of Orlando, FL and Helen M. Maniglia, of Altoona.

Mary Jo was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg. She graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1961 and retired from ConRail in 2004 with 40 years of service. She earned the highest marks in her keypunching class when she began her career at the railroad.

Mary Jo was a natural born leader of any organization she joined: National Association of Railway Business Women, selling Mary Kay in the 80’s, TOPS, or typing correspondence for John Austin/Altoona Curve Boosters Club. Although short in stature, Mary Jo’s love for life was as big as her heart and laugh. An excellent Italian cook, she made sure you never left her table hungry. She enjoyed listening to Caleb play violin for hours. She earned the nickname “Super Fan” for her permanent place in the bleachers as she attended all of her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She also loved her trips to Disney World.

Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Committal at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
