Matilda A. Capouellez, 88, of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 30, 2026 surrounded by her family at the Hollidaysburg Veteran Home.
Matilda was born in Gallitzin, PA., on May 6, 1937, to the late Josephine (Ritucci) and Dewey DeCarlo.
In addition to her parents, Matilda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo F. Capouellez, Sr., whom she married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gallitzin, PA., a loving son, Leo F. Capouellez, Jr.; her siblings Delores, Angie, Teenie, Rita, and Anna Marie.
Matilda is survived by her loving children Catherine (Ray) Keefe of Altoona, PA., Glenn Capouellez of Ohio, Patrick Capouellez of Altoona, a daughter-in-law Rhonda Capouellez, of Gallitzin, a brother David (Janet) DeCarlo of New York, her loving grandchildren Brande, Ashley, Vanessa, Clayton, Jordan, Mackenzy, and Ian; 6 great grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Matilda was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona. Matilda graduated from Gallitzin Area High School and shortly thereafter married her husband, Leo. She worked for many years at Proctor Silex and retired from General Cable. She and her husband Leo owned and operated Shadyside Custard in Ashville, PA. Matilda loved all of the activities at the Veterans home, especially bingo. She very much enjoyed going to the Casino prior to her time at the home and also loved scratching her lottery tickets that family and friends would bring her.
Family and friends will be received at the Santella Funeral Home on Sunday May 3, 2026, from 2 PM until 8PM with a prayer vigil being held at 7 PM with Father Brad Baldwin, T.O.R.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA., 16602 with interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be sent in Matilda’s name to the Hollidaysburg Veteran Home Activities Fund, Box 319, Hollidaysburg, PA., 16648.
