Michael Richard Rubine

Michael R. Rubine, 71, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Daniel T. and Lela M. Rubine. On March 2, 1983, he married Janis E. Burns.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan; 4 children: Jason Steinbugl, Jessica (Scott) Steinbugl, Sara (Paul) Balzano and Thomas (Tess) Rubine; 12 grandchildren: Dylan Zehner, Evan Dively, Madison Sell, Morgan Keith, Aidan Steinbugl, Emerson Steinbugl, Mia Balzano, Avery Porter, Bowen Balzano, Paige Rubine, Jack Porter and Layla Rubine; 1 great-grandson, McCoy Sell; 2 sisters: Christine (Loren) Hershberger and Gina (Tom) Riley; many nieces and nephews; countless friends; and his dog, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Thomas D. and Stephen A. Rubine.
Michael was a 1970 graduate of Altoona High School. He started working for his dad at Rubine’s Bar when he was 18 years old and took over ownership in the early 1980’s, where he continued to make his famous Rubine meatball sandwiches. In September 2016, he retired from the bar and worked part-time at Sinking Valley Country Club.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the Bavarian Hall. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, working out, and trips to the beach and family cottage. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday, August 6, 2024 in the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in the Santella Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Barry Folmar officiating.
