An Honored Life Remembered: Peter F. "Pete" Suenkonis
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter F. "Pete" Suenkonis, a man whose love touched every life he encountered. Pete left us on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by the love that defined his remarkable life.
Born on June 17, 1952, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, to his beloved mother, the late Minnie (Bonanno) Suenkonis, Pete's journey was one of devotion, service, and unwavering love for his family. In 1977, he found his soulmate in Carmilina "Carmie" Amorosa, and together they exchanged vows at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Their marriage became a beautiful testament to enduring love and partnership that would anchor Pete's life for nearly five decades.
Pete's greatest joy came from his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Carmie, who was truly his best friend and companion through life's journey. His love lives on through his two cherished daughters, Tonia (Shawn) Rose of Pittsburgh, PA, and Kara Dee (Johnny) Burke of Annapolis, MD, and his treasured grandson, John Anthony Burke, who brought immeasurable pride and happiness to his grandfather's heart. He was immensely proud of his family, they were the center of his world, and the love and joy he shared with them will live on for eternity.
A man of deep faith, Pete served as an altar boy in his youth and remained a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church throughout his life. His love of country led him to serve with honor in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army after high school, demonstrating the courage and dedication that would characterize his entire life.
Pete's professional journey reflected his diverse talents and commitment to family. As a skilled sports videographer for WTAJ, a CBS affiliate, he combined his technical abilities with his love of sports. Later, he transitioned to automotive sales as a finance manager, choosing to remain closer to his family in Altoona above all else.
Those who knew Pete will remember his zest for life and the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He found peace on the water, whether fishing at Canoe Creek or embarking on deep-sea fishing adventures. Family road trips filled with music and laughter were among his favorite times, and he delighted in sharing his love of driving and exploration with those he loved. His passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame football was legendary, and whether he was playing drums in his younger years or dancing with Carmie, music was the soundtrack to his life.
Pete's generous spirit extended beyond his family. He gave countless hours to his community through the PA Jaycees, volunteering at fish fries at St. Rose of Lima school, and sharing his wisdom as a coach for the local pony league. His legacy of service and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
While our hearts are broken by Pete's passing, we find comfort in knowing that his love, laughter, and the countless memories he created will live on in each of us forever.
