Rita E. Scalzi, 96, a resident of Blair Towers, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2023 at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Rocco and Angela (Spallone) Scalzi.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Linda (Harold) Wilson, of Bellwood, John (Sherry) Scalzi of Altoona, Rocco (Vicki) Scalzi, of Hollidaysburg, Rosanne (Bill) Anderson, of Etters PA, Tina Longo, of Fl., Wendy Ionuzzi, of Altoona, and Dawna (Paul) Dutton, of NJ. She is also survived by 16 great nieces and nephews and 31 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria (Weddy) Moschella; her brother, John (Mafalda) Scalzi; her nephew, Archie Moschella; and her infant nephew, Anthony Scalzi.
Rita was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Beauty School for hair and cosmetology. She retired with 45 years of service from GTE Sylvania and ECG Philips. She worked many years as a prep cook at Zach’s.
She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
