Ronald R. Schirf, 78, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herbert and Dorothy (Ernest) Schirf. On Sept. 17, 1966 he married Arlene Kennedy and she preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2015.
He is survived by a daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Schirf-Hickey, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; a son, Jeffrey Schirf, of Minotola, NJ; three granddaughters, Morgan, Avery, and Alyssa; two sisters: Janet (Norm) Kazinski, of Hollidaysburg, and Madeline Lightner, of Huntingdon; and three brothers: Herbert (Kay) Schirf Jr., of Plano TX, John Schirf, of Flinton, and William (Kathy) Schirf, of Altoona.
Ronald was a 1961 Altoona High School graduate and worked in the United States Post Office from 1967-2003. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1961-1965.
He enjoyed time with his granddaughters, golfing, and his time with the Graystone community.
Ronald was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
At the request of the family, services will be held privately at their convenience. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
