Rose Martin Obituary

Rose M. Martin, 74, Altoona, entered into God’s kingdom Tuesday at her home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Thomas and Lorene (Cannon) Lioy. She later married Hank Martin on June 21, 1969 at St. Mark’s Church in Altoona.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years; a daughter, Kellie (Michael) Snipes; a son, Michael (Chrissy) Martin; three grandchildren: Everett, August, and Lilah; a sister, Gwen (Chet) Sharrar; and her twin brother, Thomas Lioy.

Rose was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School.

God’s special gift to Rose’s family was her birth into this world. She lived a happy and blessed life because of her family and friends. She and Hank were blessed with two very beautiful children, Kellie and Michael, whom she simply cherished. She talked about how happy she was that her children picked such loving and wonderful soulmates, Michael and Chrissy. Her last treasure from this life were her three grandchildren. She said she would miss them growing up, but would be watching them all, looking down from heaven. Her and Hank were also inseparable and you would find them together wherever they went. When they first moved into their neighborhood, they were often referred to as Ken and Barbie by the neighbors.

Rose accomplished many things in her lifetime starting right out of high school with her own beauty shop for almost 17 years. Then she moved on to being a stay at home mom. After the children got a little older, she was part owner of the Phoenix restaurant and later finished out her working career as the owner of her own food demonstrating business.

Rose also served as 2nd Vice President of Project Winter Warmth Inc. for 22 years.

Friends will be received from 2pm to 8pm Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
