Sandra L. (Fisher) Cuomo

Sandra Lee (Fisher) Cuomo, 82, Altoona passed away Wednesday at Graystone Grand Palazzo Personal Care Home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William and Evelyn (Eichenlaub) Fisher. On July 21, 1962 she married the love of her life, Alfred “Fred” Cuomo, with whom she spent 61 years of marriage.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred; two daughters: Julie Fabie, of York, and Jacqueline (Paul) Rhule, of Altoona; 3 grandchildren, who knew her only as “Grandmother;” Dylan Shue, Eva Rhule, and Kade Rhule; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Thompson-Maley.

Sandra was a 1959 graduate of Gallitzin High School and attended the Altoona School of Commerce. She worked for GTE Sylvania and C-Cor Electronics as a supervisor. Her most prized role was being a homemaker to her loving husband, daughters, and grandchildren.

She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crafting. Her cookies were well-known. Family and friends often asked her to make cookies for special occasions including weddings and graduation parties.

Sandra enjoyed the time she spent volunteering for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She always knew how to make other people smile. 

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Maureen, Ashley and Mandy; as well as the staff of the Graystone Personal Care, especially Barbara, Linda, and Dana for the excellent care Sandy received.

Friends will be received from 5pm to 8pm Monday, April 3, 2023 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Committal with be at Calvary Cemetery.
