Tiberio Scarfone Obituary

Tiberio (Tab) A. Scarfone, 91, of Altoona, passed away Friday at his home. He was born in Sant ‘Agata del Bianco, Reggio Calabria, Italy, son of the late Giovambattista and Maria (Palma) Scarfone. On Sept. 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Julia A. Vizzari. He arrived in the United States on March 20, 1956.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; two daughters: Tina M. Scarfone and Julie R. Scarfone; a son, John A. Scarfone; two grandchildren: Calan Scarfone and Olivia Gillies; and a sister, Paolina Patti, of Sydney, Australia.

Tiberio was preceded in death by a sister, Agata Prendin; and three brothers: Pietro Scarfone, Carlo Scarfone and Mario Scarfone.

Tiberio served in the Italian Military Army, as a blacksmith.

Tiberio was a 1967 graduate of Altoona High School and also received an Associates degree from Penn State University, with distinction in architectural design. He was a graduate of the Istituto Raffaelle Piria, Reggio Calabria where he excelled in architecture and classical studies.

Tiberio operated a business as a master stone mason, marble setter and builder of many homes, commercial buildings and churches.

Tiberio was a member of the Home Builders Association and the Navy League. He was board member of the Italian Heritage Society, and received the outstanding Italian American Award. He was a social member of the American Legion A&J Aiai Post and United Veterans Organization. Tiberio achieved the American dream and loved his work. He was devoted to his family, an avid gardener and wine maker. He enjoyed Spanish, French, and Italian literature, poetry and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Friends will be received from 3pm to 7pm Thursday Oct. 6, 2022 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rev. Brian Norris officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center for a student scholarship in the Masonry/Construction Trades.
