Walter R. Schmitt, 88, of Valley View Rehabilitation Center passed away Saturday at the home.
He was born in Altoona, son of John and Krestanz (Formesberger) Schmitt. He married Dolores E. on Sept. 11, 1948. She passed away on Jan. 26, 2006.He is survived by a daughter, Darlene Stahl of Altoona; two sons: Bob Schmitt of Altoona and Bill Schmitt in California; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was the last surviving sibling in his family.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Walter retired from PPG with 23 years of service and previously retired from A&P Bakery with 38 years of service.
He attended Altoona High School. Walter served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a private 1st Class.
He enjoyed hunting.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services. Arrangements are by the Santella Funeral Home.
