William McDowell Obituary
William E. McDowell, 82, Altoona, passed away Friday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert and Mary (Berryman) McDowell. He married Susan DeAntonis on April 21, 1986.
Surviving are his wife; a stepson, Anthony Sassano (Karen) of Altoona; two step grandsons: Tony (Cerri) Sassano of Altoona and Christopher Sassano of Portland, Ore.; two step great-grandchildren: Mia and Brady Sassano; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Russell Lantz of Altoona; and a sister-in-law, Arleen McDowell of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Lantz; and two brothers: Robert and James "Donie" McDowell.
Wlliam was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired from Conrail as a welder with 45 years of service.
William was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading about hunting and guns and was a member of Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club and National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penn State and Steelers football and spending time with his family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
